If you find an empty paper bag on your doorstep, the Regina Food Bank is hoping you’ll take the hint to fill that void for its 33rd Annual Food Drive.

Residents can expect the bags to arrive on their doorstep starting Oct. 12. Filled bags can be left on front door steps on Saturday, Oct. 19, between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. Those who misplace or don’t get a bag are encouraged to fill a bag or box of their own and leave it on the doorstep. Various youth groups and volunteer organizations will pick them up from residences. Donation bags can also be dropped off at Regina grocery stores, or at the Regina Food Bank prior to Oct. 19.

After 2 p.m. on Oct. 19, those who have not yet had their filled bags picked up can call a hotline at 306-205-FOOD (3663) to arrange pickup.

At the official launch on Monday, representatives from Sherwood Co-op, Access Communications and the Mosaic Company, the title sponsor, helped receive the first donation of the campaign — a truckload of products.

The goal for this campaign is to surpass the 375 tons of food collected last year.

The Virtual Food Drive is also available on the Food Bank’s website. Donors can go online at www.reginafoodbank.ca and purchase items that can be added to the final total of food collected. Over the past several years, more than 575,000 meals have been provided by this means.
