Colorado Springs Climate: A Delicate Winter Solstice with Stormy Days Earlier than Christmas Colorado Springs Information

Colorado Springs starts the week with temperatures in their 50s and sunny skies, the Pueblo National Weather Service predicts.

Monday is expected to hit a high of 56 degrees, with breezes between 5 and 10 miles per hour and mostly sunny skies, the agency said. Nighttime temperatures are likely to drop to 27 degrees, with winds of 5 miles per hour and mostly clear skies.

Monday will also be a special night for celestial events, as the 21st marks the winter solstice as the shortest day of the year for the northern hemisphere when the sun is at the southernmost point in the sky, according to NASA. After Monday, the days become longer until the summer solstice in June.

Also, the “poinsettia” will be visible on Monday, when Saturn and Jupiter have been closest to each other during orbit for the past 400 years, NASA said. Known as the “grand conjunction,” the planets appear as double planets when viewers catch a glimpse of the sky near sunset and look to the southwest.

Tuesday and Wednesday are expected to be stormy late Tuesday evening and early Wednesday morning, the weather service said.

“A few storms will be possible late Tuesday and through Wednesday,” reported Gazette news partner KKTV. “The bigger impact will be the cold … highs will only hit the 30s for many.”

But on Christmas Day the temperatures will be back in their 50s and sunny.

Here is the rest of this week’s forecast from the National Weather Service:

Tuesday: Sunny with a high of nearly 59 degrees and winds between 5 and 25 mph.

Wednesday: Sunny with a high of almost 31 degrees and stormy, with winds between 15 and 20 miles per hour and gusts of up to 30 miles per hour. 20% chance of snow showers before noon.

Thursday: Sunny with a high of almost 47 degrees and wind speeds around 16 km / h.

Christmas Day: Sunny with a maximum of almost 51 degrees and wind speeds around 8 km / h.
