The Queen City Ex and Regina Food Bank are looking for anyone who can stomach the idea of taking on Joey Chestnut.

The legendary competitive eater is to be at the Ex on Aug. 5 to compete in a celebrity mini-donut eating competition. The goal is to raise $20,000 in dough — or 60,000 meals — for the food bank.

The event is to start at 5:30 p.m. on the Original 16 Stage. Community leaders are being invited to join Chestnut, who holds the world record for eating 220 mini-donuts in eight minutes.

He also has won the July 4 Nathan’s Hotdog Eating Competition for 15 straight years.

Everyone who has the appetite to take on Chestnut has to raise a minimum of $1,000, which would pay for 3,000 meals at the food bank.

So far, Regina Exhibition Association Limited president and CEO Tim Reid, Regina Food Bank CEO John Bailey, Economic Development Regina president and CEO Chris Lane and Rebellion Brewing president and CEO Mark Heise have agreed to get roasted by Chestnut.

“Queen City Ex creates memories that make our community a better place, and for Regina Food Bank, this partnership is the sugar on top that helps us feed those who need a hand up,” Bailey said in a media release.

“Last year we experienced a 49 per cent increase in Food Bank users, serving 12,505 children, youth, and adults across Regina. Food insecurity is continuing to rise, and we can only rise to the challenge of meeting the needs of our community thanks to our donors and community investment partners like REAL District.”

Donations to the competitors can be made at reginafoodbank.ca. A QCX pass for Aug. 5 includes admission to the competition.
