Police said in a news release that around 12:30 a.m., officers spotted a 2006 black Ford F-150 truck that matched the description of one stolen on Dec. 27, 2021, with a licence plate belonging to a 2020 vehicle, indicating the plate was stolen.
The man drove the truck down several alleys, avoiding main roads as if to escape detection, police said.
He was eventually stopped in the area of 1st Ave. North and York St., where the driver was tracked by a police dog and arrested for possession of stolen property.
Police said that further investigation showed the truck was allegedly used in two break and enters in early January, and another stolen licence plate was found during a search.
The man was charged with attempted break and enter, theft under $5,000 (lockbox and key fob), break and enter, possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000 (truck), 2 counts of possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000 (licence plates), two counts of breach of probation, and operating a vehicle while prohibited. He appeared in Provincial Court on Feb. 14.
