Regina Meals Financial institution including greenhouse to develop recent produce year-round – Regina
The Regina Food Bank is expanding by adding a new year-round greenhouse thanks to a $100,000 donation from Co-op.
“[We’re] really excited to be able to foster this initiative that will provide fresh fruits and vegetables to this community,” Co-op marketing vice-president Leah Andrew said.
The donation will allow the food bank to add 50 garden towers to the new greenhouse, according to CEO Steve Compton.
Each tower can grow up to $1,500 worth of fresh food year-round.

Compton says for a city with a climate like Regina, the garden towers will make a difference.
“We respond to about 9,000 requests a month,” Compton said.
“But I think what really is important is that a lot of times it’s about what we can give. So, in this case,WHAT this allows us to do is have locally grown nutritious food where sometimes our donations may not allow for that.”
