Soup for the soul and free grocery packages with vacation meals in Colorado Springs

REGINA, Colorado (KRDO) – “In the spirit of the season and the urgency of our time, we are taking quick action at the local level by funding local restaurants for making nutritious soups and giving away 3 liters each through Peak Education, Fostering Hope and Family Colorado Springs Food Rescue. It’s a team effort, ”said Jeff Cooper, executive director of the Petritz Foundation.

The Soup for the Soul campaign will bring vacation warmth to entrepreneurial restaurants, local families, and community members this winter.

Colorado Springs Food Rescue, the Petritz Foundation and local donors innovate in access to locally produced, nutritious holiday meals from restaurateurs in the community.

“Here at CSFR, we recognize that a fair food system is not just about access to emergency food. We are excited to be working with local restaurants severely impacted by COVID restrictions to both support their bottom line and offer a gift to members of the community, “said Patience Kabwasa, executive director of Colorado Springs Food Rescue.

During the week of December 21st, participating families can redeem their soup for the Soul Certificate at the Colorado Springs Food Rescue office on the Helen Hunt campus. Between the Fostering Hope Foundation, Peak Education, and Colorado Springs Food Rescue, an estimated 560 families, or approximately 2,000 people, will be fed.

Each certificate is good for 3 liters of delicious hearty soup from our featured restaurants. Participating restaurants include: Red Gravy, Pho-N-Thai, Edelweiss, Fujiyama and Switchback Hillside Cafe.

Red Gravy Chef Eric Brenner says, “Red Gravy has been committed year-round to bringing love to our community during these challenging times by participating in a variety of charitable initiatives through our Meals to Heal campaign and other collaborations . We are very happy to be accepted. ” We hope that with our award-winning tomato bisque for soup for the soul, we can brighten the time of charity, kindness and love in these dark days of the pandemic. ”

Colorado Springs Food Rescue is offering a free ride through the food program on Saturday at 12 noon at 917 E. Moreno Ave in Colorado Springs.
