USOPC donates quite a bit to Care and Share Meals Financial institution | Colorado Springs Information

The U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Committee donated 3,100 cases of non-perishable food to the Care and Share Food Bank.

The food was supposed to be sent to Tokyo during the 2020 Olympics for American athletes. The games were postponed to 2021 following the global coronavirus outbreak.

The donation, valued at an estimated $ 105,000, arrived at Care and Share late Friday morning.

Shannon Brice, Care and Share’s chief operating officer, was there to oversee the unloading of the food.

“Knowing that the food is meant for Tokyo, we certainly wish it had gone there,” said Brice. “We certainly wish that the country does not face what it is.

“But given what we see in our community, it is a blessing to our organization to receive this. We are grateful that it comes here and feeds our neighbors instead of just wasting it. “
